FREEDOM FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH DOGS

Nine beagles spent their entire life in a research lab.  Breeders sell them to labs for as much as $750 per dog…so they can spend their life being poked, prodded, operated on for the “good” of mankind, given diseases, given painful procedures…and much much more.  They never experience the light of day…enjoy a game of fetch…a scratch behind the ear…or love.  But…it’s ok…its for the good of the pharmaceutical companines…or the cosmetic companies.  It’s so we get perfumes that don’t irritate our skin..or medication that doesn’t make us break out in hives.

Proponents of animal testing claim that every medical breakthrough relies on animal testing in some way.  I might argue that just because they “used” animal testing doesn’t mean it was the “only” viable means of achieving the same result.

I believe Charles Darwin said it best when he wrote to Ray Lankester in March 1871: “You ask about my opinion on vivisection. I quite agree that it is justifiable for real investigations on physiology; but not for mere damnable and detestable curiosity. It is a subject which makes me sick with horror, so I will not say another word about it, else I shall not sleep to-night.

Beagle Freedom Project took on the medical establishment when they contacted a medical research lab that had used the nine beagles since birth for testing.  After years of living in a lab environment and being subjected to various kinds of testing…the dogs were released to the rescue group.

“One of the reasons the medical labs prefer testing on Beagles as their breed of choice is because they are so forgiving.”
